This work is one of the most pivotal within Scwheder's oeuvre of performance architecture, reflecting a number of future directions. It reflects his subsequent exploration with inflatables -- Vinyl inflatables that explore the performativity of architecture and its interaction with the spectator, within the space of the gallery -- the invisible, x-rayed, sick and healthy body, and the immateriality and instability of architecture. A young and raw work the Sick Building would reach maturity in such works as Snowballing Doorway, Sac of Rooms All Day Long (Collection SF MoMA) and most recently in Roomograph, exhibited at the DeCordova Museum.
